Salisbury's Monopoly Edition Features Our Charity!

July 2020

Salisbury Hospice Charity is extremely proud to announce that we are to be featured on the up-coming Salisbury edition of Monopoly as a Community Chest card.

Owners of the game Hasbro made the announcement last week saying:

Salisbury Hospice is the very first charity to be revealed as ‘Passing GO’ – as well as the first landmark to be announced on the board. And here they are in their full MONOPOLY glory (image attached)!

The hospice will now get to take on a starring role on their very own square - on a Community Chest or Chance space. Two other worthy city charities will appear on the board too. The public was invited to suggest, recommend and nominate charities – as were the charities themselves.

"The three Salisbury charity MONOPOLY spaces were our way of thanking the public for getting behind the game so very enthusiastically," says a spokesperson for Winning Moves UK, makers of the new game under license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro.

Earlier this year, Winning Moves UK announced that Salisbury is to get its own MONOPOLY game after seeing off a host of other places across the UK in a nation-wide “beauty contest”.

Mr MONOPOLY came to the city to break the news. Since then the makers have been busily putting the edition together and confirm that the game will hit the shops later this year.

The spokesperson added:

“We hope the game can go some way to lifting spirits in this most unprecedented of times. We have been working on this game since the start of the year and are delighted it will be in shops in October.”

Salisbury Hospice has been supporting patients and their families in the city since 1981, and look after up to 1,000 patients a year. A delighted Paula Flower, Head of Fundraising for the charity, says: “We are thrilled and excited to be playing a part in this Salisbury version of the iconic board game. Being a huge part of our community, it is great to be – literally - put on the map - the MONOPOLY map! We would like to thank everybody who voted for us, it is a real honour.”

At the time of the Salisbury MONOPOLY announcement, the public was invited to vote for general landmarks to feature in the game.

Salisbury Cathedral and Old Sarum polled “exceptionally well,” added the spokesperson. Salisbury Racecourse and “everything Stonehenge” also polled very well.

"We would like to formally thank each and every person who sent in nominations. The game will be available at all major retailers, as well as very widely online including Amazon.”
