Canzonetta at Salisbury Cathedral

Saturday 6th July 2019

Salisbury Cathedral

The vocal tradition known as “canzonetta” has been around for a few centuries now, a light madrigal style of secular, unaccompanied song for several voices. The vocal ensemble Canzonetta has a much shorter history of some 16 years only, but we respect the origins of our chosen name with our varied programmes of sacred, secular, traditional and folk songs, not to mention our more modern pieces, sung in 3 or 4 part harmony, sometimes a cappella, sometimes accompanied.

The female group of 9 alto and soprano voices, performs 4 or 5 fund-raising concerts each year and are this time raising funds for Salisbury Hospice Charity

Canzonetta singers share a love of music-making, and we celebrate the joy of sharing music with our unique sound, often inviting local composers to add to our repertoire with new arrangements of familiar pieces or new compositions. We are honoured and excited to be invited to sing in the iconic surroundings of Salisbury Cathedral, where music and song have united for centuries, to uplift the heart and comfort the soul.
