The Grimsdyke Goose Fair, held on Sunday 27th July at Swaynes Fir Farm in Coombe Bissett, delivered an unforgettable day of community spirit and fundraising in aid of Salisbury Hospice Charity, raising over £10,000 to support its vital work.
Organised by the Butt Family, the day offered a packed schedule of activities centred around the traditional poultry auction. The air was alive with the lively squawks, honks, and clucks of geese, ducks, chickens and turkeys as they found new homes, much to the delight of the gathered crowds. Auctioneer Jim Butt, with quick wit and warm humour, kept the bids flying and the audience entertained.
Beyond the poultry and ‘deadstock’ auctions, visitors enjoyed a wide range of attractions including a Car Boot Sale, tea and cake stall run by volunteers and hospice charity staff, food vendors, trade stands, bouncy castles, and miniature tractor rides. Delicious homemade cakes, bakes, and drinks were served throughout the day as guests soaked up the vibrant atmosphere.
Salisbury Hospice Charity extends heartfelt thanks to everyone involved for organising this event, now in its second year, as well as to all stallholders, volunteers, and supporters who made it possible.
Alex Brown, Community Fundraiser for Salisbury Hospice Charity, said:
“We are truly humbled by the incredible efforts of the Grimsdyke Goose Fair team – Jim, Pam, Andy, Sara and Sam, Gemma, Catherine, Liam and Helen, the generosity of all the volunteers and the huge support from our community. The fantastic sum of over £10k will go directly towards funding and future-proofing the specialist palliative care delivered by the hospice to those who need it most. Events like this play a vital role in ensuring we can continue this service.”
Funds raised from this year’s Goose Fair will go directly toward supporting Salisbury Hospice Charity’s mission of delivering free, compassionate care to individuals and families facing life-limiting illnesses.
