Peter Gillam Support Centre
The Peter Gillam Support Centre at Salisbury Hospice offers a welcoming and supportive environment for patients and carers living with a life-limiting illness.
Through a wide range of therapeutic, emotional, and practical services, the centre aims to enhance quality of life, promote independence, and provide connection and support during what can often be a challenging and isolating time.
We emphasise that hospice care is not only about end of life support but also about helping people to live well for as long as possible, with dignity, comfort, and meaningful engagement in daily life.
What the centre offers
In addition to the above the centre runs additional patient sessions focusing on:
-
Wellbeing and therapeutic activities
-
Peer support in a welcoming space
-
Access to specialist advice and hospice services
-
Building confidence, enhancing independence and helping people to live well.
-
Activities and support are also provided to patients on the inpatient unit 1:1 if they are not able to access the group sessions
Living well programme
One of the centre’s core services is the Living Well Programme, which aims to develop practical and emotional skills for managing illness and fostering independence. It introduces patients to the hospice not just as a place for end of life care, but as a resource for living well with the support of compassionate professionals.
The programme includes:
-
Information sessions facilitated by members of the hospice teams
-
Exercise sessions tailored to individual ability
-
Strategies for symptom management
-
Peer connection in a relaxed, informal setting

Monthly carers support sessions
The Peter Gillam Support Centre runs monthly Carers Support Sessions for those caring for loved ones with life-limiting illnesses. These informal sessions offer a safe space to share experiences, discuss practical concerns, and connect with others in similar situations. There is no pressure to speak, you can listen, reflect, and participate as you wish.
Sessions are facilitated by a member of the Family Support Team and a Specialist Palliative Care Nurse, limited to 10 participants to maintain a calm, supportive environment.
