Salisbury Hospice Charity’s Christmas Tree Collection raises over £24.5k

This year’s Christmas Tree Collection run by Salisbury Hospice Charity, in partnership with the charity Just Helping, has finished, with the final mop up completed this weekend. An outstanding £24,829 has been raised, with a total 1419 trees collected between 13th – 15th January – the most successful year to date!

The initiative is a huge community effort which involved the support of MANY volunteers including those from local businesses, who kindly dedicated their time and resources in support of the hospice.

The money raised from the collection will support Salisbury Hospice and ensure patients have dignity and choice in their final days. It will provide support to families, carers and friends, ensuring that comfort and advice is given at every stage of the dying process.

Every year, Salisbury Hospice cares for up to 1,000 people living with life-limiting illnesses and its services are free of charge to everyone who uses them. Annually, Salisbury Hospice Charity needs to raise £1.5 million – over 60% of the £2.9 million needed – to maintain the vital palliative care services at the hospice.

Salisbury Hospice Charity will be donating 10% of funds raised to local charities. In addition to supporting these charities, the collection also helps the environment as all of the trees are either given to alpacas and goats to eat, or chipped thanks to the efforts of local tree services. Chippings are then composted or recycled as animal bedding on a local farm.

The charity is extremely grateful to everyone who supported the scheme this year by registering their tree, and would like to extend their gratitude to their kind sponsor Step Associates.

Salisbury Hospice Charity would also like to offer special thanks to: Amazon, Linden Van Hire, Pizza Venti, Tesco Extra Salisbury, Ockenden Tree Services, Mark Walsh Tree Services, Stump Grinders Tree Specialist, Salisbury & District Young Farmers Club, Serve On, Rose Farm Hurdcott, Newbourne Farm Composting, Barefoot Barns, Nationwide Building Society, Boatwrights, Breeze Environmental, Neil Smith Builder, Donald Capewell Builder, Ringway Infrastructure, Clearite, ASG Landscaping, Wessex Timber Windows, Emcor and of course all their wonderful community volunteers.
